FAQ ABOUT MY BOOK

It’s almost time for the book to be YOURS! My book, Does Carcinoma Mean Cancer, will be published on Jan. 8. It’s a graphic memoir of the first four days of my cancer journey. It starts on the day I found my lump and covers my story up until the day I was told, “You have cancer.” With the book coming so soon, I shared behind-the-scenes and frequently asked questions on this podcast episode. Below, I put the FAQ’s into text.

Q: Will it be paperback, hardcover, audio or all three?
A: It will be paperback! I would love to do hardcover, but ballin’ on a budget says otherwise. Although I plan on making a special edition for myself to take with me everywhere and possibly tape to my heart, it will be paperback. Since the book is a graphic memoir, an audiobook doesn’t really work for this project.

Q: How many pages is it?
A: 72

Q: How much will it be?
A: Between $10-$15.

Q: What ages is the book for?
A: 13+

Q: Who is the book for?
A: Anyone who knows or has supported me through my cancer journey. Anyone who’s ever been diagnosed with cancer. Caretakers who’ve supported and stood by their loved ones receive scary news. Those outside the cancer world who want to put themselves into someone else’s shoes. Truly, it’s for anyone. We’ve all been through something that’s left a stark “before and after” feeling within our lives. This is mine.

Q: Could it be a gift for someone else within the cancer world or is it too sad?
A: Not too sad at all! Forgetting my pants at work is a part of this story for crying out loud! It’s very relatable, funny and I will admit, there are happy and sad tears to be shed.

Q: Why should I buy the book?
A: You should buy the book because it gives the reader an intimate insight to what it’s like to receive life-changing news. And we’ve ALL been there before. Even if your situation wasn’t cancer, we’ve all been through hard times. This book will make you feel seen, make you laugh, make you cry (happy and sad tears) and it’s a STUNNING work of art, thanks to my illustrator. You’ll be able to read the book many times and still find new facets to the art.

Q: Are you donating a portion of the book sales to a nonprofit?
A: Not right now. Of course, I always want to give back. But with the tiny profit margin, I’ll make using KDP, I need to get my grounding before tying this project to a nonprofit. I hope to in the future once sales come in!
