my graphic memoir

In this graphic memoir, Sara brings the audience through four of her most intimate and difficult days, waiting to find out if she has breast cancer. The brilliant illustrations combined with her descriptive recollections capture her story of a life event that sadly affects far too many.

The relationship between the artwork and words makes it feel as if the reader is right there in the moment with her. This memoir is for anyone who is personally going through or supporting someone going through a life-changing diagnosis. Her story serves as a reminder that even in the chaos, you’ve got the power to ride the waves of change.

BEHIND THE SCENES

This book was born from a writing prompt in a Wildfire writing workshop. Shortly after all that writing, I felt strongly this memoir-style essay needed to be visual. I sketched out my entire project on my ReMarkable tablet. I knew my stick figures needed a professional though. I hired the brilliant Kevin Smola who took the project to the next level.
