JUST SHOW UP (IT’S 110% WORTH IT)

When I think back to launching this podcast November 14, 2019, many lessons learned come to mind. Between all the technical difficulties, big and little successes and connections made, the number one lesson I’ve learned is to just. show. up.

I’m deep into the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert who shares her wisdom and unique perspective on creativity through wonder and joy. The main message I’m getting is that we’ve forced creativity and creating to be something it was never meant to be. It was never meant to be up for discussion and deciding based on likes, comments, listens or shares.

It is a privilege to create. From the episodes to the logo to the mission, I’ve had a year of creating nonstop. I’ve shown up for 52 weeks in a row. No matter what dreams I have that will or won’t happen with the podcast, I have shown up. As Elizabeth says, “Work with your heart because if you show up day after day after day, something might burst into bloom.”

Last Sunday night at 11 PM in bed, creativity struck. I put together this “Happy One Year, Facing Fear” recap video from my phone using an app. Sometimes the blooms Big Magic mentioned aren’t securing a sponsorship deal or snagging 1,000 new listeners, it’s creating a video from scratch at 11 PM on a Sunday night in bed. And how lucky am I to create in this way, or anyway for that matter.
